Microchip Technology has announced an accelerated development path for quad small form factor pluggable double density (QSFP-DD) and octal small form factor pluggable (OSFP) active electrical cables (AECs) using its META-DX2C 800G retimer. The announcement comes as the rise of generative AI and AI/ML technologies fuels the demand for more high-speed connections and the push toward 800G connectivity in backend data centre networks and applications. Researchers from The University of York in collaboration with the Quantum Communications Hub and euNetworks Fiber UK Limited (euNetworks) have demonstrated that quantum communication is possible over the long geographical distance that separates England from Ireland. The experiments series were conducted on euNetworks’ 224km Rockabill subsea network in July, pushing the boundaries of quantum communication and paving the way for the future security of private data. VERSES AI Inc. has announced completion of Flying Forward 2020 (FF2020). The three-year project that began in November 2020 was funded by European Union to test viability of autonomous drones across five European cities. The final two trial cities, Oulu, Finland and Tartu, Estonia, join the three other sites Eindhoven, Netherlands, Milan, Italy, and Zaragoza, Spain in demonstrating essential digital infrastructure for governing autonomous drones.
